Why 52?

The book is divided into 52 "chapters," or hiking areas, to challenge you to participate in the 52 Hike Challenge. Do a hike a week for one year and you will get through the whole book! 

52 Hike Challenge

This movement started in the US in 2015 and has grown worldwide. It's easy: start at anytime, and do 52 hikes. On average, if you do a hike a week you will complete the "original series" challenge. There are other versions, like the kid series and the adventure series.

Join the challenge. It does not have to be January 1. It can be at any time in the year, and it is self-directed. We recommend getting a journal to note down the trips in (or in the back of the book), as well as sharing on social media with hashtags like #hike1 and #52hikechallenge.
