About me/ Om meg

My name is Kendra and I love to go hiking! I am a native Oregonian, an adopted Czech, a half-official Norwegian and a Hispanofile. I am at my best in the wild.

Jeg heter Kendra og jeg elsker å gå fjelltur! Jeg er født i Oregon, adoptert inn i Tsjekkia, en pseudo-offisielt nordmann og hispanofil. Jeg er på mitt beste i naturen.

About me

These are my favorite hikes on Costa Blanca, and I cannot wait to share them with you!

I lived on the Costa Blanca for 6 years, where my husband and I worked in the Norwegian church (Sjømannskirken).  Our two boys went to the local Spanish school and we soon fell in love with the Spanish culture, language and landscape.

One of my roles was to help with the weekly hiking group, Vamos. Through this group and its experienced guides, I got to know the peaks and valleys of Costa Blanca. When the pandemic hit, things changed. Interest in hiking grew in Spain. Hiking trails offered fresh air, less people, benefits for physical and mental health.

And because many were unable to return to Spain during the strictest restrictions, I stepped in as a guide. What an opportunity! I was full of questions. Where do we gather information? Are we missing out on hikes, are we choosing the routes at the right time of year? How can we plan the best family routes? Together with close friends, I started researching and exploring- and writing.

Costa Blanca 52 is the result. It is a collection of 52 of the best places for day hikes, many with alternatives. All of them are under an hour's drive from Albir and Alfas. Inspired by #52hikechallenge, which started in my home state of Oregon, it comes with a challenge to hike once a week for a year.

This is a collection for everyone, from beginners to experienced hikers. I hope you will use it to explore Costa Blanca's peaks and valleys, and who knows- maybe you will fall in love with it too?

Buen camino,

Kendra
